pr - 1st month of Maguindanao Massacre

PRESS RELEASE
Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP)

Militants Commemorate the anniversary month
of the Celebrated Maguindanao in front of the NBI.

In a unique way of remembering the Maguindanao massacre, members of the Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino and the Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM) paraded 57 skulls in the form of face masks starting from the corner of Kalaw and Taft Avenue down to the NBI, the agency where Ampatuan Jr, the alleged mastermind of the most heinous crime was being holed up.

November 23, 2009 was a tragic day for the country where the massacre happened marking the most cruel, brutal and barbaric crime committed by a warlord in Maguindanao. The victims in a matter of hours were simultaneously beaten, raped and summarily killed and buried in a mass grave together with their cars to conceal all the possible evidences. Now it is already a month and the wheels of justice is slowly grinding for them. The government must be held responsible for this “go slow” policy to ensure cover-up for Gloria and ultimately protect the Ampatuans. Ampatuan Jr. is being taken cared of at the NBI, a far cry from other crimes where suspects are supposed to be in jail while awaiting trial.

It was pointed out last week by the justice department that it will take another 60 days just to consolidate the case against the Ampatuans. Only in the Philippines where you can deliberately calculate the grinding of justice and not following the natural prosper of the case. This is a clear manifestation of trying to impose a cautious policy meant to protect both the suspects and that of Gloria.

“Gloria benefitted from the warlords and the Amptuans provided what they badly needed during elections, a haven of electoral fraud and deceit where the opposition got nothing but virtually perfect zeroes of voters turn-out in Maguindanao. The Ampatuans meant business as a warlord and is now at the heels of mercy to the government. They hold the key to the illegitimacy of the GMA administration and precisely Gloria herself is beholden to this kind of political partnership”, Leody De Guzman, BMP President asserted in an interview.

During the program held in front of the NBI, the group executed a die-in protest for a few minutes calling for a swift justice for all Ampatuan victims and no cover-up that will absolve Gloria and his cohorts.

The group vowed to sustain its crusade against the perpetrators of the massacre and will resolutely follow the case through its series of actions and protests. They will not stop unless the victims ultimately got their ultimate and genuine justice. ###
