BMP Negros – Official Statement
November 1, 2019
The working class of the Negros Island decries the actions taken by the CIDG, PNP, and AFP in raiding the offices of progressive organizations, namely Gabriela, National Federation of Sugar Workers (NFSW), Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), and Anakpawis on the early evening of October 31, 2019. These are legal organizations that have fought and are fighting for the interest of laborers.
This is a form of harassment which portrays a clear demonstration that the rights of organizations are being curtailed. This is also a message that reveals there is a motivation to silence organizations that are critical of the Duterte regime.
The event is without a doubt a manifestation of de facto Martial Law that is occurring throughout the nation, a status that was put into effect informally through the Memorandum Order 32 of President Duterte; it is of no difference from the military interventions that took place during the Marcos dictatorship.
Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP) Negros strongly condemns the military forces and the Duterte regime with the measures that they have carried out against the working class and people's organizations.
Thus, we call on the unity of the working class in confronting the ploys of the government.
Ideological and political lines must be crossed in order to unite against fascist attacks by the common enemy. An attack on one is an attack to all. This is a violation not just to the Maoist forces, not just to the Left, but to the people's democratic right to organize and defend themselves against the oppressive and exploitative few.
Long Live the Working Class!
Samuel S. Gavoro
Chairman, Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino – Negros
